Here for the toxin-reducing tips, not the life story? Scroll to the bottom—I won’t take it personally. 😉

If you caught my last blog, you’ll know life recently hit me with a plot twist worthy of its own Netflix mini-series. And yes, I’m leaning into the shock value angle just a little—to reap the benefits of grabbing your attention.

As my much cooler younger sister reminded me last night, “there’s nothing wrong with a little healthy competition and you have to come to play.”

Life is a game after all… or a school… or a prison. I guess it’s more complex than any one label—depending on the angle you’re looking from, and what you’re working through in your inner world.

Maybe, in the end, this rings most true: that life is what you make of it.

As much as I was a shy little kid, and always the helper, never the lead—I know I didn’t come here to whisper into the void. I came (to Earth, that is) to make an impact. I believe the same is true for all starseeds, angelic, and volunteer souls—each in their own way, within their own sphere of influence.

And so the story goes…

I went from living my best life with backroad mountain views… to lush jungle vibes—salt, sun, and sand. No vitamin D supplements needed for this little lady… to finding out I was pregnant—unexpectedly—and just as quickly, moving back home to be close to my family, choosing the support I knew I’d need to raise a baby on my own. Or at least for the first couple years anyway.

With a simple two-word command from my body to my mind—a firm yet softly whispered “hold steady”—arriving three days after my expected period, everything changed.

Lush green hills and cascading purple morning glory flowers dominate the foreground, with a calm ocean horizon under a bright, cloudy sky.
Not many words to say here… Just around the corner from where I was living, there was this. A vista of wild morning glories climbing toward the light.

Still, new life is a gift—and even though it came as a shock to my status quo, I chose to meet it with an open heart and open palms.

Cue the next chapter: moving back home, sharing the news with my family one by one—which was equal parts daunting, surreal, and surprisingly well received. (Turns out my extended family is a lot more open-minded than my very conservative father.) Hunting for a cozy apartment, furnishing it piece by piece with a mix of old, new, and things pulled from storage… and growing a baby—all while diving into the 1:1 coaching program I had signed up for to finally master online sales.

No big deal, right?

Heritage Charm… with a Modern Twist

What I didn’t expect was that my new apartment—cozy, check; conveniently located, check; full of charm, check—and as grounding and heart-clearing as it’s been to have my own space after all the back-and-forth of living with my parents every time I came home… would come with its own invisible challenges.

Turns out, that modern twist—still in mint condition when I signed the lease—also comes with an off-gassing phase, as everything settles into its aesthetic glory. And the reality of living on a busy street—albeit a charming downtown one—comes with its own layer too: traffic, fumes, and all.

Before all of that, my days were spent between the rainbow diet and conscious community of PachaMama Eco Village and Retreat Centre—complete with all-night sound journeys, cleansing protocols, and earth-centred rituals for peace and wellbeing—and an expat-friendly beach town filled with high-vibe living, yoga, surf, and coastal air.

Let’s just say, there was much less stress, a lot more sunshine, and a lot fewer environmental toxins… which does wonders for our innately self-healing body–mind–spirit avatars. With less coming in, mine finally had the space to clear the backlog—and in turn, up-level my health and overall sense of well-being. I have a feeling the daily dose of sun and salt had something to do with it too.

And just like my experiences returning home after Vipassana retreats—going from extra feeling, extra sound-sensitive, and extra open… until my system gradually recalibrated to meet the pace of everyday life—so too has it been going from coastal jungle peace to landlocked small-town Canada.

When your nervous system says ‘Blue Zone,’ but your postal code says ‘Small Town Buzz.’ So you try building your own sanctuary and call it a vibe.

Highly Sensitive, Mildly Misunderstood

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years on my holistic healing journey, it’s that everything comes back to the baseline.

Energetically, as we strengthen our central channel—like the trunk of a maturing tree—we become more stable, more resilient. We can apply this same principle to our physical bodies too, through what we take in day to day, and what we allow ourselves to release through cleansing and fasting.

Let’s just say, it does wonders to gently support the body’s natural detox pathways.

Over the years, I’ve come to see my sensitivity as a gift too—even when it occasionally feels like a curse. One of the upsides of being highly attuned is the ability to sense imbalance before it reaches the physical plane. The downside? Trying to explain that to those who aren’t living from the same lens—which, if you’re reading this, I suspect isn’t you—can sometimes feel like describing color to a bat.

In a world that tends to worship toughness—especially in the cold, cold winters of the Canadian north—sensitivity can easily be mistaken for weakness. In my family, proud Scots through and through, “toughen up” was practically a love language.

And yet, here I am, on a quiet little mission to show that sensitivity isn’t fragility. It’s intuition. It’s an innate sense of balance. It’s early detection. It’s a superpower in disguise.

When the Going Gets Tough (and the Tough Gets a Bit Toxic)

So when life turns up the heat—as it has for me lately, oh-me-oh-my, with its ups and downs and all-arounds—this time in the form of an unexpected cocktail of daily toxins for my body to process… we usually have two options.

Well, three if you count handing it all over to God (which, let’s be real, might actually be a mandatory step one).

After that, we can either go up in flames—which, truthfully, is sometimes part of the deal if you’ve signed up for rapid evolution. Think phoenix rising… there’s always that slightly inconvenient burn-to-ashes phase before the glow-up.

Or—we find a way to strengthen and protect ourselves. Regulate. Resource. Get a little wiser about what we’re standing in.

That’s the version I’m hoping for right now… though if I’m being honest, it feels like I might be experiencing a bit of both.

And the inconvenient truth—at least in my experience—is that, as life-altering as those phoenix-rising moments can be, not all of them happen like a wildfire. Sometimes, it’s more of a slow burn on a misty-morning kind of situation.

The last time I lived in my hometown—back during the COVID years—although it had its benefits, I didn’t fare so well. I slow-burned… and I think, in some ways, I still am. Still moving through that same process.

With this new layer added, here I am again—brushing up against a familiar low. We all have them, no? Just in different forms.

And mine, in this season, looks like this: unintentionally eating my feelings, spiritual gifts on mute, and a lingering grief… paired with the hamster-wheel realization that I can’t always communicate with my family—at least in certain areas of life—in a language that feels native to my spirit. The self-reflective, lighthearted one that tends to emerge along the spiritual path.

And yet, there’s a strange comfort in it too… I lived this way for most of my childhood.

So while there is frustration, I’ve learned to loosen my grip on the victim, aggressor, and saviour roles—to honour my own hero’s journey, and to meet life from my inner warrior: one willing to learn, refine, and grow.

I’m still here because there’s soul work unfolding—and it’s mine to do. Beneath the personality and creative spark, I’m simply a try-and-fail-and-try-again, slightly chaotic, glowing heart… trusting I’ll find my way through.

And aren’t we all? Doing our best with the tools we have on this pioneering journey toward what Sri Aurobindo calls the Homo Spiritus.

To the world—which will happily pull us back into the status quo again and again—we’re not all that important. So we might as well quietly tinker away in the background, get a little messy, and keep going until we create a life that aligns with our spirit. That’s how I’m choosing to see it, anyway.

And hey—a little pair of rose-coloured, poetic life glasses in times of trouble never hurt anyone. If anything, they probably help.

But I digress… I’m supposed to be talking about environmental toxins.

And yet, in a way… maybe I am.

Different Layers, Same Frequency

Because when the baseline is vibration—if we haven’t yet learned to process, integrate, and release our own inner underworld, our own shadows—then isn’t it all connected? Different expressions… of the same underlying frequency.

So even though I wasn’t expecting my brand new pad to come with two weeks of pregnant-mama soul searching—questioning whether to stick it out or admit I might’ve gotten it all wrong (apparently choosing aesthetics over actual air quality… bold move)—in the end, I found a way to tweak, adjust, and make it work.

And maybe that’s the point.

I have an inkling I’m nearing the end of this slow-burn chapter—ta-da, cue the confetti!—just before the phoenix rises. But for now, I’m the warrior who’s learning how to strengthen and protect herself—to regulate, to resource, and to grow a little wiser about what she’s standing in.

If there’s one thing this chapter has taught me, it’s that healing isn’t about perfection — it’s about presence. Whether you’re filtering your water, clearing your energy, or choosing silence over static, every small act of care is a declaration that your well-being matters.

Creating an oasis in the matrix doesn’t require a move to the jungle (though, trust me, it’s life-changing). It starts right where you are—with small, intentional choices that realign you with nature, with spirit, and with your own rhythm. So wherever you’re reading this—city apartment, country home, or somewhere in between—remember: you are your own ecosystem. Protect it. Nourish it. Let it thrive.

*Post Update: My original list had a very “go big or go home” energy—but I’m also transitioning out of my shoestring-budget phase. So while some things I made work, others I've circled back to and included more budget-friendly options.

It's now seven months later, I’m happy to say: baby is healthy, happy, and very tall. We stroll around town, and everything we need is within walking distance of our cute little heritage apartment—now thoughtfully set up with health-conscious solutions.

Sunlit window with rainbow reflections. A green plant, books, vase, and singing bowl sit on a windowsill. Tranquil, cozy atmosphere.
From foliage… to multi-dimensional crystal support… to singing bowls for a little space-clearing—suddenly your flat isn’t just cute, it’s pulling its weight. And here’s the bonus: the more furniture, plants, and well-placed trinkets you gather near your windows, the more you naturally soften external noise. Turns out, cozy clutter isn’t just aesthetic—it’s your window decor quietly moonlighting as a sound barrier.

8 Ways to Protect Yourself and Reduce Environmental Toxins at Home

1) Get a Water Purifier

Water holds memory. It carries vibration. And the water running through most city pipes? Let’s just say it’s seen better days.

Municipal water usually contains fluoride (for teeth), chlorine or chloramine (to disinfect), and trace metals that can leave your energy field feeling a little… crunchy.

That’s why I’m planning to use a Santevia Water System. A Canadian brand (but you can find equivalents worldwide), it filters out chlorine, heavy metals, and up to 99% of fluoride, then re-mineralizes your water with calcium, magnesium, and trace earth minerals—infusing it with the grounded frequencies of earth and stone.

It’s hydration as energy medicine—turning your tap water back into living, elemental flow. Want to take it one step further? Add a hydrogen bottle to charge your water with extra vitality—making it resemble the bright, oxygen-kissed current of a babbling mountain stream.

*Want the budget-friendly version? At one point, I lived near an actual babbling mountain stream, where locals would come with their jugs to collect fresh water for home. I’ve also lived in rural Canada, where wells are drilled straight into underground rivers. The best part? Sometimes, water is still free—straight from Mother Earth. Do a little scouting and see if there are any healthy water sources near you.

2) Get an Air Purifier

From the hum of passing traffic to the haze that settles after a long day of commuting and chemtrails, the air we breathe in town is… well, let’s just say it’s not what my transitioning jungle lungs are made for.

That’s why I’m choosing to invest in a Mila Air Purifier—a smart, energy-conscious system that feels like a deep exhale for your home. Mila uses medical-grade HEPA filtration and activated carbon to clear out pollutants, allergens, and chemical residues, while built-in sensors continuously read your air quality and adjust automatically.

You can even choose from seven different filter options depending on your needs — like “Mama-to-Be” for pregnancy-safe filtering, “Overreactor” for sensitivities, or “The Critter Cuddler” for pet owners. Think of it as a personal air guardian: tracking smog, pollen, and particulates so you can breathe easy—literally.

3) Soundproof Your Space

For me, this one’s a big deal. Right now, I wear sound-blocking earbuds durning the day and ear plugs at night, to help drown out the hum of traffic—but I’m pretty sure nothing good comes from wearing tech in your ears most of the day!

That’s why I’m looking into Indow Window Inserts (or something similar) to help reduce external noise by up to 70%.

Noise pollution is an invisible stressor—and it’s brutal on the nervous system. Chronic exposure (to traffic, sirens, construction, or even appliance hums) keeps the body stuck in a subtle fight-or-flight loop.

Over time, it wears down your parasympathetic system—the part that helps you rest, digest, and feel safe. For empaths and energy sensitives, that low-level hum isn’t just “noise”—it’s what keeps your energy field on alert.

*Want the budget-friendly version? As soon as I brought my library into my apartment and filled it with furniture, plants on the windowsills (heritage building—think two-foot stone walls), noise-blocking curtains, and all my decor, the noise reduced significantly. Soft materials, full shelves, and layered textures absorb sound more than you’d think—sometimes it’s less about blocking noise entirely and more about softening the space around you.

4) Filter Your Shower and Bath Water

Alright—you fixed the drinking water. But what about the water that flows over your skin every day?

Your skin is your largest organ, and it absorbs much of what it’s exposed to. The good news: it’s an easy fix.

Install a shower filter between your shower head and water pipe to reduce chlorine, fluoride, and heavy metals. One option I’m eyeing is Invigorated Water’s 15-stage shower filtration—it does a solid job and comes in at a very reasonable price.

5) Exercise That Makes You Sweat

When I was living in Vancouver—often right off a busy street—I didn’t use any of the protections I just mentioned. But I did practice Bikram Yoga four times a week.

And as much as people love to give Bikram (the man) a bad rap for his fiery personal life, health-wise he created something profound: a practice that activates your body’s natural detox system and sweats out everything that doesn’t belong.

Now that I’m back in my hometown (and pregnant), I’ll need new ways to sweat—post-baby, of course. But truly, any safe way to get your circulation moving is gold.

Sweating is your body’s built-in purification system. Let it do what it does best.

6) Find Your Closest Natural Oasis

It’s simple, underrated, deeply healing—and the best part? It’s free.

Walking in nature is one of the most powerful ways to reset your nervous system and clear your energy field. The Japanese call this practice Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing—immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the forest.

The phytoncides (natural compounds released by trees) boost immune function, while the gentle sensory input—birdsong, sunlight flickering through leaves, the crunch of earth—soothes the vagus nerve and restores balance.

Even ten minutes a day can shift your entire frequency. Think of it as a soul rinse—a way to come back to yourself, one quiet step at a time.

7) Cook Simply from Whole Foods

Cook simply, from whole foods — ideally organic ones. Growing your own might not be realistic in a city or town, but you can always shop at your local farmers market. Local produce carries more life force—it’s harvested close to home, still buzzing with vitality.

Learn to cook from the root—literally and energetically. The more love and presence you bring to your cooking, the more nutrient-rich and energy-rich it becomes.

And here’s where I let my inner kitchen witch out: infuse your food with love and gratitude. Bless it. Ask it to vibrate with vitality.

Because when you stir your meals with intention, you’re not just cooking—you’re casting edible light spells for your body and soul.

8) Enforce Energetic and Psychic Protection

On top of all the small-town bustle, my apartment has one more intriguing feature—a graveyard just beyond the back fence. I can’t say I’m surprised (the building was built in the 1800s!), but it definitely adds a layer of spiritual “character.”

To keep my space clear, I’ve learned to anchor pillars of angelic light at each corner of my home, orient to the four directions, and invite only love and above through the front door with a prayer.

I’ve also activated a crystal grids to harmonize the energy and place guardian spirits at my entryway.

Hi, I’m Marnie

…and I’m so happy you stopped by!

If you’ve made your way here after exploring my website, one thing you might not have picked up on is that—beneath all the soul work and spiritual wisdom—I’m actually pretty lighthearted.

While in my professional life I love diving deep into healing and personal growth, the love notes you’ll find here are flavoured with stories from my personal world — the one where my mom swears I’m from another dimension, the moon makes us lune-y, humor turns up the heat, and grace cools it down.  A world where leprechauns are definitely real, the cats almost always get a seat at the table… and where I’ve found myself right back where it all began — growing up along the 45th parallel, quietly living in the middle of things in more ways than one.

This blog has gone through many iterations over the years — and now, I find myself at yet another unexpected bend in life’s ever-winding road. I’ve landed (accidentally but fatefully — stars aligned, karma approved) in the land where the single mamas grow, newly pregnant and totally rocked. Let’s just say it’s given my whole “spiritual travelogue” theme a major plot twist.

But hey, sometimes it’s the tiniest feet that leave the biggest footprints, right?

So, with a full and joyful heart I'm saying:

Let live — and let the adventures begin!

" Sparks from the Heart has the Ability to Awaken Your Soul"

"What Spiritual Healing Means to Me—Because Obviously You're Curious!"

Spiritual healing is a steady journey—one that gently unfolds over time and brings us closer to feeling whole again. It’s rooted in both intuitive connection and a kind of subtle science that helps us tune into the deeper layers of who we are.

When we align ourselves with the natural rhythms of the earth and the cosmos, we gain clarity, strength, and access to the tools we need to heal and grow.

At its heart, dis-ease is simply imbalance—the result of being disconnected from the spiritual force within. But when we return to the present moment and listen to our hearts, we tap back into that divine wisdom. From there, healing flows, along with a renewed desire to grow, to love, and to be of service.

To heal, in the truest sense, is to come back to ourselves—to gently bring together what’s been seperate, and remember our wholeness.
