What Is Energy Healing, Really?

I used to think this was such a big, complicated question—which might surprise you, given that I’ve made a career out of being an energy healer.

I didn’t grow up with the concept of energy as part of my reality—and in the early days of my spiritual awakening (which was so life-changing I eventually wrote a book about it—you’ll find it linked just to the right on desktop, or below on mobile) trying to understand it felt like learning a whole new language.

I remember reading Hands of Light by Barbara Brennan back in 2013, along with the works of Anodea Judith and Cindy Dale. I would read a few pages… pause… reread… and try to make sense of it all.

Yet what once felt complex has become… second nature, and not because I know everything, but because I’ve been living it for over a decade.

I still reach for my books often—checking in, cross-referencing, deepening my understanding for myself and my clients. But the foundation of this aspect of reality now lives in my body—like how we all learned to read in grade school.

It's from that place that energy healing becomes much simpler to explain.

Energy Healing in Simple Terms

At its core, energy healing is healing through vibration.

Just as conventional medicine works with biochemistry—balancing hormones, neurotransmitters, and physical systems—energy healing works with the subtle layers of experience: sensation, emotion, perception, and what could be understood at it's foundation as vibration.

These aren’t necessarily opposing systems. They can work together so long as we understand the nuance.

Where medicine often meets the body at the physical level—balancing irregularities in your biochemistry—energy healing meets it at the root of experience, where patterns begin.

A Shift in Perspective

Something that’s been landing more deeply for me lately is this: The human race is living through a collective shift in consciousness.

What many call a spiritual awakening.

And with that comes a new lens—a broader way of seeing—and a deeper level of responsibility.

Many Indigenous traditions speak of what’s called the “waking dream.” The understanding that the reality we experience is shaped not only by our actions, but by our thoughts, emotions, and inner state.

In this view, we are not separate from the world—we are participants in its creation. Our inner world reflects our outer world, and our outer world reflects our inner world.

Energy healing becomes more effective—and easier to understand—within this framework.

The Body as a Bridge

You may have heard the phrase: humans are a rainbow bridge between heaven and earth. And if you haven’t—well, now you have.

In energetic terms, this translates quite literally.

The human energy field—expressed through the chakras (seen as the colors of the rainbow, each reflecting a different frequency), the meridians, and the aura—is a subtle system, imperceptible to the physical human eye, that connects the physical and non-physical aspects of who we are.

It is the interface between:

  • Body and spirit

  • Inner world and outer reality

  • Energy and form

And when we work at this level, we’re not just addressing symptoms—we’re working with the pattern beneath them.

Healing From the Root

In much of our current system, we tend to treat things once they become physical.

But symptoms don’t begin in the body.

They begin as subtle imbalances—mental, emotional, relational—long before they take physical form.

Your inner world… your state of consciousness… is not separate from your outer experience.

It reflects it.

And until we begin to work at that level—individually and collectively—imbalance will continue to surface.

In other words, we will continue to perpetuate pain and suffering—individually and collectively—until we learn to tend to our inner worlds, step out of victim, aggressor, and perpetrator narratives, bring balance to our karma (the pain that still carries lessons), release what is ready to be let go, and integrate the depth of power each of us holds.

Energy Healing in Practice

In practice, energy healing is both simple and nuanced.

During a session, a practitioner works with the body’s energy field—often by placing or hovering their hands over specific areas of the body, particularly around the chakras.

From a subtle perspective, the practitioner is not “doing” the healing, but rather supporting it—acting as a conduit through which energy can be directed, organized, and brought into balance.

This energy is often felt as warmth, tingling, or a gentle sense of movement.

Through the hands, attention, and intention, the practitioner works with the flow of energy through the chakra system—helping to clear areas of stagnation, restore coherence, and support the body’s natural ability to heal and regulate.

At the same time, what arises isn’t only energetic.

Sensations, emotions, memories, or insights may surface—because the energy field is intimately connected to our lived experience.

In this way, the session becomes less about “fixing” something, and more about creating the conditions for awareness, release, and integration.

The body responds. The system recalibrates. And something begins to shift—often in ways that continue to unfold well beyond the session itself.

My Lens as a Practitioner

My work naturally leans into relational and emotional healing.

(You can thank my Scorpio sun and Pisces rising for that.)

I don’t mind going deep—in fact, I need to to feel normal. ☺️

Because so much of what we carry lives beneath the surface:

  • Unprocessed emotion

  • Inherited patterns

  • Adaptations to others’ expectations

  • Ways we’ve learned to disconnect from ourselves

Energy healing allows us to meet those layers—gently, honestly, and without bypassing.

A Holistic Approach to Health

Vibrational healing also invites us, over time, into a full-spectrum approachwhich is why I do my best to listen to my body’s natural rhythms and stay mindful of what I take in. I support it with nourishment, rest, and intention—while also acknowledging that many of us are navigating a world filled with toxins, from our food to our environment.

That’s where choices like organic foods (food as medicine), naturopathic support (the earth as our medicine cabinet), movement, and supportive detox practices come into play.

But I don’t rely solely on external fixes.

Holistic healing invites us to look at root cause—not just symptom management.

It asks: Where am I out of alignment? What is my body trying to communicate? What is ready to be seen, felt, or shifted?

As our awareness expands, a deeper reference point comes online—one that allows us to recognize what is true for us. This is what I refer to as our Divine Blueprint.

So… What Is Energy Healing?

Here’s the version I always come back to: The human energy field—also known as the aura—is a structured yet fluid network of subtle information within and around the body.

It includes:

  • The chakras

  • The meridian lines

  • The layers of the field

While systems like the meridians (in Traditional Chinese Medicine) and nadis (in Ayurveda) aren’t the same as the nervous system, they often move in parallel. Where one describes the body through biology, the other describes it through subtle energy or life force—and in practice, working with one often influences the other.

Think of it like this: if your body were a computer, your energy field would be the hard drive—storing the rote data that shapes how you think, feel, respond, and experience life beneath the surface, in turn influencing your nervous system.

And What Does It Mean to Heal?

To heal, in its truest sense, means to become whole. Not perfect. Not fixed. Whole.

And from that place, balance and wellbeing naturally follows.

It’s interesting to consider that what we call physical, mental, or emotional dis-ease may not simply be something “going wrong,” but the body’s way of restoring balance—responding to a life expression that has drifted out of alignment.

Energy healing works at a vibrational level to help us:

  • Understand ourselves more deeply

  • Reconnect with what has been separated

  • Repattern through the elements and vibration, realigning us with our true nature—or at least a truer expression than what was previously available to us.

And from that place of awareness—

Something shifts.

Not through force, but through integration. Through self-understanding. Through self-acceptance. And through love—that’s an important one, and something I plan to explore more deeply in another post.

A Final Thought

The form of energy healing I align with is about meeting reality more fully.

With greater awareness. With deeper responsibility. With a willingness to see what’s beneath the surface.

Because when we begin to understand ourselves at that level—we don’t just change how we feel. We change how we live.

Bringing It All Together

Energy healing, at its core, invites us into loving relationship—with our body, with our inner world, and with the deeper patterns shaping our lives.

It asks us to look beyond symptom, beyond surface, and into the intelligence of what we’re experiencing.

Not as something to fix, but as something to understand (or innerstand).

And perhaps that’s the real shift happening beneath it all—A remembering that we are not separate from our own healing.

That we are participants in it.

That the way we think, feel, and relate is not just a response to life—but part of what creates it.

Hi, I’m Marnie…

and I’m so happy you stopped by.

If you’ve made your way here after browsing my website, you’ve probably already gathered that my professional work centers around healing, transformation, soul growth, and helping women navigate seasons of deep change.

But what you may not have picked up on yet is that beneath all the soul work, healing conversations, and spiritual wisdom… I’m actually pretty lighthearted.

While Earth Heart Healing is where I hold space professionally, this little corner of my website is where the layers loosen a bit.

It’s where the stories live.

The one where my mom swears I’m from another dimension. Where the moon definitely makes us a little lune-y. Where humor turns up the heat and grace cools it back down again. A world where leprechauns are absolutely real, the cat gets a seat at the table, and somehow life has brought me full circle — back to living along the 45th parallel, quietly in the middle of things in more ways than one.

Life has carried me through many different chapters and identities over the years, yet beneath all the plot twists, the transformational process has remained surprisingly consistent: unraveling, awakening, grieving, rebuilding, laughing, becoming.

And through so much of it, writing has quietly been there beside me — helping me process, reflect, heal, and find joy in the threads.

So I thought… why not share some of it more candidly?

Maybe heal two birds with one song. While these reflections, emotional support ramblings, cosmic tangents, and slightly unhinged moments of self-awareness often double as my own form of therapy, I hope they help you feel a little more seen, human, hopeful… and entertained along the way too.

And speaking of plot twists... welcome to my latest unexpected turn in life’s ever-winding road: landing (accidentally but fatefully — stars aligned, karma approved) in the land where the single mamas grow, newly pregnant and totally rocked.

But hey, sometimes it’s the tiniest feet that leave the biggest footprints, right?

So, it's with a full and joyful heart, I’m saying:

Let live — and let the adventures begin!

" Sparks from the Heart has the Ability to Awaken Your Soul"

What Spiritual Healing Means to Me—Because Obviously You're Curious!

Spiritual healing is a gradual dance of expansion, contraction, and integration between the subtle and physical worlds — a process of returning to deeper connection, balance, and wholeness over time. To me, it lives at the intersection of intuitive wisdom, intellectual understanding, and the subtle science of how the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of ourselves interact.

As we begin to align more deeply with the rhythms of the earth, the body, and the natural cycles of life, we often gain greater clarity, resilience, and access to the inner resources needed to heal, grow, and move through life with greater awareness.

For many people, the experience of dis-ease becomes the very catalyst that leads them to seek healing in the first place. Dis-ease can be understood as a movement from balance into imbalance — a disconnect from ourselves, our bodies, our emotions, our environment, or the deeper sense of meaning and vitality moving within us.

Over time, this disconnection leads us to make choices that move us further away from our natural state of authenticity and well-being, while symptoms themselves may arise as the body and nervous system attempt to restore balance and call our attention back inward.

In much of the modern world, we’ve been conditioned to focus primarily on managing these symptoms rather than exploring the emotional, environmental, relational, and spiritual roots that may exist beneath them.

Yet when we return to the present moment and reconnect with the wisdom of the heart, mind, and gut, we begin rebuilding that inner relationship. From that space, healing often flows more naturally, alongside a renewed capacity for love, purpose, creativity, connection, and service.

And while healing can involve depth, grief, and profound transformation, humour is also a part of the medicine.

Laughter softens the nervous system enough for healing to enter. Humour becomes the bridge that helps us survive the in-between spaces — reminding us that even amidst the chaos, beauty, absurdity, meaning, and humanity still exist side by side.

To heal, in the truest sense, is not to become someone new.

It is to gently return to ourselves.

To gather the fragmented pieces with compassion, restore balance where we can, laugh where we are able, and remember the wholeness that was there all along.
